A woman worth more with someone’s penis

Someone said to me that it was “a shame that there was no man in my family to avenge my having been battered”. I understand what he meant but it was so distasteful.

As if my value in the world was tied to a family member with a penis being around to avenge and/or protect me. That my father is dead and I have no brothers my aunt’s husband (formerly known as my uncle) a worthless thieving piece of shit, means that a man could feel free to mistreat me without consequence.

My point is that all men need to move past seeing another man’s mother, sister, daughter, aunt, niece in order to see a person.

Every man ought see every woman as a person in her own right.

Failing to do so is evidence of misogyny and patriarchy and toxic masculinity.

Black Mothers Matter

My son was about to go out for a run. “Do you have your ID?”

“Don’t have your music too loud. Just wear one ear bud”
Now I am mad because some white mothers get to just be happy that their kid is healthy and active.

I gotta stress about him surviving the run because he is a 20something Black Man.

#BlackLivesMatter

BlackLivesMatter

#BlackLivesMatter bothers people who fundamentally believe that Black Lives Don’t Matter. Who want peace at the expense of the rights of Black People.

For whom Justice is White Privilege.

It only works as an American Issue if we are seen as Americans. It’s a question of humanity if we are seen as human.

The American Psyche is distorted by the systemic denial of humanity and citizenship to Black Americans.

The debate on Slavery during Declaration of Independence,

the Dred Scott case.

The discussions surrounding the 13 amendment and

Plessy v Ferguson.

These are anomalies or glitches is the American psyche.

This is it.

Happy Fathers Day

two stories about my dad… who I love and miss very much.
I don’t know how old I was, but I was a very curious child. One Saturday morning.. I decided that I had to know how the toaster worked.
I was sitting at the table in the kitchen taking it apart, with a knife, when my dad walked in. “what are you up to Brown Eyes?” he asked refilling his coffee cup.

“I want to see how the toaster works.”

“ok… well, you have to put it back together before your mother gets home.”

and with sage advice, he UNPLUGGED the toaster from the outlet in the wall and left the kitchen.
the second story is way more dramatic
Never one to back down from a fight, let alone an argument, I had gotten into a tussle with a older boy on the block.

This is back in a time when all the neighbors knew each other and all the kids played together. Roscoe was older and handsome and wouldn’t let me hangout with him and the other older kids.

I was hotter than a 45 and madder than a wet hen.

I marched my little ass home and told my Daddy that I had been wronged, mistreated, there were tears and snot and gasps for air during this story.

“Do you want me to have a word with young master Roscoe?” he asked

“No” I stated firmly “I want you to beat him up”

“Well… BrownEyes, you understand that as an adult, that’s out of the question – but I will go and have a word with him.”
My father announced to my mother he was leaving the house and off he went.
About 30 minutes later he returned with both Roscoes, the father and the son.

Roscoe was made to apologize and I was made to accept his apology.

The bell rang as Roscoe’s mother showed up with a big pitcher of lemonade.
Glasses were poured and Roscoe and I were instructed to play and the adults ‘doctored’ their lemonade and we all went to the backyard to enjoy the summer breeze
Other neighbors showed up with assorted packages with bottles and cans and soon there were no chairs left.

I remember watermelon and lightning bugs and laughter all around
At some point the adults began to play Bid Whist and I feel asleep in my dad’s lap to be awaken by a Boston no trump bid… which he made..

imitating a train whistle – next stop BOSTON!!!!!
There was much more to him as a person.

He is the reason that I am a RaceWoman and womanist. that I am never without a book and still have a crush on Frederick Douglas.

and there was more to him as a man…

but Mostly – he was my Daddy and he was really good at it

Bad Mutha Fukkas. God Complex

I find “Black” representative of my position in the African Diaspora.
I descend from those who fought to survive.
From people who had life, safety, Freedom, language, ritual and tradition stolen from them.
Who created a culture and life in a hostile land.
Who loved fiercely in the face of constant hate and Degradation.
We some Bad Mutha Fukkas✊🏾❣

but did you read the Bible…

There are days when being Black and an Atheist are just exhausting.
When Black Americans say that God will keep things fair and protect the just my mind flashes back to slavemasters introducing Christianity to slaves to control and shame them.
And how people staunchly indoctrinated in dogma refuse to address the lack of condemnation of rape and slavery from a biblical standpoint.

Or the oppression of women.

That the bible and many of its followers accept this as divine province is beyond scary.

Black in America

opening salvo
thesis:
a fundamental problem in America is that a majority of WHITE people, either consciously or subconsciously don’t see black people as fully human, as real people. not the same as white people.
because america has bought into, each of us to some degree, the lies that were perpetuated to support slavery and segregation and still be a good christian country of decent evolved people.
you cant do to your brother or sister what was done to slaves and blacks under segregation, and not be criminally insane.
you cant look into the eyes of enslaved, and persecuted people and not see yourself. if you see them as fully human.and be a good decent person.
therefore, a fundamental problem in America is that a majority of BLACK people, either consciously or subconsciously don’t see black people as fully human, as real people. not the same as white people.
because america has bought into, each of us to some degree, the lies that were perpetuated to support slavery and segregation and still be a good christian country of decent evolved people.
