thoughts on Black History in America (because it snowed yesterday so it must be February)

One cannot and should not compare ‘suffering”.
There are so many factors and I will assert that the history of Africans in America has been whitewashed and watered down to GWTW, The HELP, MadMed pablum.
The the vicious use of the NWord in that gruesome history of Slavery Segregation Racism has been ignored and disregarded to the point that as a Black woman I see and hear. “Why cant you get over it”, “that was ages ago”, etc, yet other cultures assert “NeverForget” and garner respect. and then people can’t sit through 12 minutes of 12 Years a Slave. This contributes to ” the NWord isnt so bad, why cant I say, you say it, reverse racism is real and white male privilege isnt real” mentality that is dangerously ignorant and exploits the disregard for facts, intellectual analysis and history in a spectacular fashion.
Slavery as performed on this continent was the cruelest invented and lasted over 300 years.
JimCrowSegregation, American Apartheid began as early as 1870 and ended as legal form of oppression in 1965.
There are lost histories belonging to many exploited communities in this country and our collective failure to learn and grow from those histories will ultimately be our downfall as a nation.
